ABOUT US
We are a team that loves learning
Welcome from your German and English instructor!
I am Ingrid Fiedler, an American living my dream life in Darmstadt, Germany. I have a classical academic education mixed with practical teaching strategies infused with imagination and storytelling. It seems like I have always been teaching! At the age of seven, my little sister became my first student as I made her learn her colors by ringing different colored bells. I taught introductory German classes at Purdue University during my Master’s program in Comparative Literature, where my focus was German, French, and Antiquity. As a mother, I developed an integrated homeschooling curriculum and taught my five children a classical education with a barking dachshund in tow. All this experience culminated in teaching German at Veritas Press, numerous hours of DaZ/DaF (German as a Second Language and German as a Foreign Language) at Zentrum für Weiterbildung in Germany, and private online tutoring. My focus is always on YOUR needs. Here are some of the things I have worked on with my clients:- B1 certificate for citizenship
- A better grade in English for German Gymnasium students
- A better grade in German for American high school students
- Business English for the workplace
- New expat wanting to understand official documents from the German government
- Group learning for the team at work
- Private lessons to impress the boss
Hello! My name is Marie Klein-Burtt, and I am a world schooler! I grew up in Northern California, USA, where I was home educated until I went to university. I was given an amazing hands-on home education that catered to my learning abilities and interests. At university, I received my teaching credential and focused on teaching strategies for English Second Language students. My first teaching job was math immersion to Spanish-only speaking children!
A few years later, married and with two young children, I moved to Eastern Europe and became a language learner. I discovered I absolutely loved learning the language and went on to become a C1 speaker in Romanian. I continued to use my teaching credential in Moldova and Romania, teaching basic English to at-risk children.
My family and I recently moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where I am a language learner, this time Amharic. I am currently home educating my two kids in both English and Romanian to keep them native speaking. As a family, we love all things STEaM, crafts, and projects, and raising our animals. We have had snakes, lizards, hamsters, and guinea pigs, currently have dogs and a bunny, and hoping to add chickens and a goat this coming year!
If you want to learn English, I am here to help. I love teaching all ages, especially kids and teens. I can teach your child conversational English (using games!), help your teen study for an English exam, write a paper for English class or get you ready for that long-awaited holiday to the UK or USA.
If you have ever wanted to learn Romanian, I can help you with beginner and conversational Romanian. Plus, I can help you find Romanian language resources, and I know the best language schools in Romania if you live there. If you are a Romanian expat family and want your kids to continue speaking in Romanian, I can help with that!
I also have been tutoring maths since I was in high school myself! Maybe you have a child doing distant learning and falling behind in maths. Maybe you or your child is suffering through upper-level maths. Or perhaps you have a student preparing for their GCSEs/iGCSEs or SAT/ACT. Tutoring maths is one of my favorite things to do.
Hi, I am Francesca Fiedler, and my mom is making me do this. Just kidding!
I am here to help you with your conversational skills and basic English. I am a native (American) English speaker. I also have my Abitur from the Lichtenbergschule in Darmstadt Hessen, where I became acquainted with British English.
If you are preparing for a trip abroad and would like to dust off those important travel phrases or you need to impress your American mother-in-law, book a time.
Hi, I’m Gordon Finlay. I started my career in sales at Rothmans International Tobacco and soon moved into my first management role at Tetley Walker Brewery. I spent several years in various management positions, finishing as Senior National Account Manager. I then moved to Danone, where I was General Sales Manager of the ethnic food business and was subsequently promoted to a board-level position as MD of European Subsidiaries and relocated to Germany. Five years later, I became Export Director at Wagner Pizza and was responsible for all non-German speaking countries and majored in BeNeLux and the UK. Nielsen market research became my next challenge, and I was appointed Commercial Director for the food and non-food sectors in Germany and NL.
I have loved my time in business and gained so many valuable insights into other cultures and countries as both a buyer and a seller – in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Now is the time for me to share my experiences (and lessons learned!) with companies and/or individuals looking to expand their knowledge or business.
I’m here for you to learn business or conversational English (individual or group), conduct intercultural training (doing business in a foreign country with emphasis on UK, BeNeLux, France, Nordics, and Asia), or help with relocation integration when moving to Germany.
Hi, I’m Fernando del Valle and a fourth-generation New Orleanian. I hold degrees from Tulane University in my native New Orleans and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.
As an internationally recognized Operatic Tenor, I am proficient in Italian, French, and English, conversant in German. See my complete biography at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_del_Valle.
My teaching focus is more on diction, support, and conversation. I can easily point out errors and suggest “no pressure” options in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
I can help you with conversational Italian, French, English, and German.
Thank you for subbing in for our German 2 class several times this year. It was interesting and nice to discuss the material with new viewpoints. It's also fascinating to hear about Germany and be taught by someone who lives there.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks for her professional treatment of my son. She immediately had a good rapport with him. Through her friendly demeanor, she acquired his trust and he liked going for instruction. She built up his confidence in his abilities in the English language and it became something positive for him. His grade consistently improved. He started with a 5 and within a year moved up to a 3, which he was able to hold on to. She taught him a system of learning so that he could continue on his own. I can highly recommend Ms. Fiedler as an English teacher.

I have thoroughly enjoyed learning German this year. It has been a wonderful introduction, and being able to hear some of the cultural contexts of the language from someone who lives in Germany has been fascinating!
Eli
I have learned so much in your class and you are constantly cracking us up with puns or witty sayings. I am disappointed that I haven't been able to make all the meetings because of running, but I greatly appreciate your prompt and thorough answers to all my questions. Danke!
Sam
Thank you so much for such a great year of German! You have made learning this language so much fun, and I really appreciate your enthusiasm for teaching us! Not every teacher would put up with all of our crazy puns and jokes.
Shelby
I appreciate your encouragement and your ability to make learning German fun and interesting.
Peter
I was in your German I class two years ago and just wanted to say that I am in German III now and we still talk all the time about how much we learned in your class! Every year of German has been such a great experience for me.
Elizabeth
You've done more for me in a foreign language class than anybody else. I went from a rough, very small knowledge about German grammar and language to a much bigger understanding of how to form multiple different types of sentences in German. You went above and beyond what you were required to do, and that has definitely left a big impression on me.
I think that you have a unique way of conducting your classroom that sticks out to me among other class settings I have been in. I am drawn to your ability to put the education into the hands of your students. I have come to a greater realization that ultimately how much I learn depends on me. Just me. Thank you for teaching me that, along with bearing with my German insufficiency
Ineka
Never have I so quickly fallen in love with a language as I did with German, and that's largely because of your efficient and fun teaching style. I can't thank you enough for giving me the foundation I needed to jump into all my present German studies, including all the translation of German 2 and 3, as well as the extra-curricular German things like documentaries.
Gabriel
German was so much fun with you. You both made me laugh and sometimes terrified me with your mysteriousness and wonderful evil laugh (you have by far the best evil laugh on the planet). Thank you for always being willing to go over any extra work I did.
